Summer adventures in along BC’s Gold Rush Trail were truly inspiring. Breathtaking beauty, haunted landscapes, written & unwritten history, invisible allegories, tales of colonialism. All of it so educational.
We visited Wells, Barkerville, Fort St. James & many other places. We drove for over a thousand miles and many, many hours & only made it just beyond the halfway north mark in BC. And, we drove the #97 north in a mostly straight line with not much deviation in direction, with the exception of a right turn in Quesnel to get to Barkerville. So, we really only saw a small portion of that southern half of the province. What a vast land we live in! Of course, I realized that many years on a family road trip from Nova Scotia to BC. But, I’d forgotten the shapes, sounds & sights of the astounding vastness.
