In the nineties and early two thousands I was the lead singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist in Vancouver indie pop band, hazel motes. It was a great project that saw many talented people cycle in and out of the group. I enjoyed it immensely and the band was the testing ground for my songwriting, collaborative and performance skills. The band had some success over the years and charted on college radio and had a long list of gigs in Vancouver, BC, Alberta, Ontario and Seattle. I remember those days fondly and can’t imagine playing the number of gigs now that I did then – sometimes 2-3 shows per week!
In those days, we did our own postering and I created this poster that we used for every gig under the hazel motes banner in Vancouver. I guess it became a recognizable image because my pal and drummer/percussion collaborator Jenny spotted one of them on the Cannibal Cafe’s vintage nineties Vancouver band poster wall. Pretty cool!
