ekologik is the lead-off song from the new record and it’s the first song Ron & I wrote together. It’s a chorus-less 4 verse poem that builds into a crescendo. The poem was inspired by Arcade Fire’s Suburbia album and the idea that place and routine can keep us locked inside the capitalist machine – like Franz Kafka’s world. In my own world, I’ve worked for many years at UBC and commute by bus everyday. The poem was composed on the bus. I mused about how working within a 9 to 5 system has shaped me: a bit like me oh my – the forces that shape us and the choices that we make are have a lasting impact on our lives.
