In early March I received a friendly email from my domain neighbours, The Tin Forest. The Marketing & Press Officer for the National Theatre of Scotland wanted to let me know that the company is putting on a large scale participatory arts project called The Tin Forest, which is part of the Cultural Programme of the XX Commonwealth Games being held in Glasgow this summer. In the spirit of neighbourliness, he wanted to let me know this was going on & also that because we are neighbours, I will likely receive additional visitors on my website leading up to the big event.
Here’s a little snippet of what he wrote explaining a bit about the project…
Inspired by the bestselling children’s book of the same name, The Tin Forest will see creative teams from the National Theatre of Scotland work alongside the people of Glasgow, to retell the story of the city’s industrial past and explore what lies ahead as Glasgow continues to reinvent itself as a creative city of the 21st century. It’s a celebration of heritage, local community and regeneration. There’s also an international strand to the project, as we’re inviting youth theatre groups from across the Commonwealth to create new pieces of theatre, inspired by The Tin Forest story, to be performed in Glasgow during Games-time. The project culminates with the transformation of an iconic Glasgow riverside building, where audiences will be invited to experience a puppet labyrinth and AV installation, also inspired by The Tin Forest.
Pretty cool, huh? I love the spirit of neighbourliness! Wish I was in Glasgow to take part in the events. Find out more here –> www.thetinforest.com
