It’s been estimated that bees contribute nearly half a billion dollars to the BC economy alone and they have been recognized officially by the United Nations as playing a vital roll in staving off world hunger.
The David Suzuki Foundation launched the Butterflyway Project in 2017 to encourage schools, city agencies and home owners to plant bee and butterfly friendly plants in gardens and yards across Canada. https://davidsuzuki.org/take-
This was part of the ongoing work the foundation has done which also includes campaigning to ban neonicotinoid pesticides and to account for bees in urban planning. https://www.straight.com/news/
