Hailed as having “the most original songwriting style in Vancouver” by The Province newspaper, Vancouver musician Kele Fleming has been writing songs her whole life. The founder of early ’90s Vancouver indie pop band Hazel Motes – which, along with acts like Lava Hay and the Grapes of Wrath, helped define the city’s sound for that era – Kele Fleming writes songs about the environment, modern dislocation, coming of age as a queer person and the lives of women.
Kele (pronounced Kelly) delivers a mesmerizing live show marked by her voice, a majestic instrument of seemingly limitless force and dexterity that shifts from choir girl naiveté to rock and roll edge. She has a loyal following among indie, folk-rock, and pop listeners. Whether it’s delivering a solo acoustic set or playing with her band, Kele’s warm stage persona and gift for storytelling deliver an experience that’s not soon forgotten.
Kele just released her 4th solo album, The Song I’ll Write For My Whole Life on October 2nd. Recorded live off the floor at Vancouver’s The Warehouse Studios with Juno-recognized engineer and producer, Sheldon Zaharko (The New Pornographers, Tanya Tagaq), this album showcases the depth of Kele’s songwriting and her commitment to marrying literary lyrics with baroque pop arrangements.
