About the song and the video…
Vancouver producer & guitarist Jesse Waldman did this remix. It brings out the song’s rootsy, gritty, folk pop moods & strips away effects so that the vocals are up front. It’s overflowing with vocal depth and inky tones. I also put together a 10-voice choir of Vancouver singer- songwriters for the original studio recording with Sheldon Zaharko of Zed Productions and it was amazing to hear all of these voices together!
I wrote the song after visiting a Giant Pacific Octopus at the Vancouver Aquarium. I wondered what it might be longing for – the wide open ocean, a lover, the inky depths. Musically, the song captures the essence of the ocean. It’s full of longing, love, mystery & the importance of connection. The vibe of this mix is more minimalistic, personal & intimate, like a lover telling the tale of the life of their life.
